Triton6 Year Old Rottweiler MixTriton was one of TDS's first rescues and the most challenging at that time. Maybe it was because he's part Rottweiler or maybe it was that he didn't like other dogs but rumors about his "viciousness" started to abound. Although Triton had shown only affection towards people, everyone approached him with great suspicion. They were invariably surprised by his affectionate nature. A few weeks after being rescued from the shelter, his foster mom lost her job and had to leave the state. Triton was suddenly homeless. Finding a foster home for a big dog that dislikes other dogs is especially hard. He had other things against him: he wasn't young, had bad teeth and a strong prey drive. TDS's only option was to kennel him. Dominique and, sometimes, Caroline visited him regularly to walk and spend time with him. It was so sad to see him back in a kennel. Weeks went by. We advertised him online, put up flyers in all parts of San Diego, took him to adoption events and still got no response. Then, a friend put up a flyer in Palm Desert and, finally, someone wanted to meet him! We'd almost given up hope. Bill and Triton hit it off straight away. Triton's effect on Bill's dad, an older gentlemen, was therapeutic. Before long, Bill's sister, her family and their dog moved in temporarily. Triton turned out to be great with the kids. He even did okay with the other dog. Now, it's just Bill and Triton or Buddy, as he's called now. Bill sits on the patio at night, watching the stars over the Joshua Tree National Park. Buddy curls up in the chair next to Bill and listens to him as he reads to him out loud. This is what Bill said about his relationship with Triton [Buddy]: "He is the best friend that I've ever known, and he is the best teacher that I've ever had." When things get tough, we think of Triton and Bill and it gives us hope. Other Happy TailsSee our Happy Tails page for more happy endings. Copyright © 2007-2008 The Dog Squad Rescue, Inc. |
