Our Team
Caroline Wright, President, Secretary, Webmaster
Caroline was born in England and brought up in Johannesburg, South Africa. Animals have always played a large role in her life.
After returning to England for several years, Caroline met her (now) husband and came to San Diego, bringing her teenage son and two German shepherds with her; her daughter was studying at the time and opted to stay in England. Caroline spent the next several years building her computer consulting business.
In time, she and her husband added two new members to their family: Moose and Bella Bear, both French bulldogs. After the death of both their German shepherds in the spring of 2006, she and her husband went to the local shelter to look for a large dog to adopt. Instead, Caroline started volunteering as a dog walker. It wasn't long before she was involved in rescuing dogs.
She decided that she could do more by having her own rescue. She joined forces with Sue and Dominique, both fellow volunteers, and The Dog Squad was born.
Caroline and her husband did adopt a dog from the shelter -- a large, mellow Rottweiler who they named "Zulu".

Sue Barbato, Vice President, Director of Fundraising
Susan was born and raised just outside Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up with 10 siblings and a long list of beloved family dogs.
In the mid 1980s Susan left Boston for the warmer temperatures of Los Angeles where she made a career in the music industry. When Susan wasn't promoting records and music videos, she spent much of her spare time with her best friend: Sadie, a golden retriever. Ignoring repeated requests by her family and friends to "leave the dog at home", Susan opted to do most everything with her four legged companion.
Susan returned to Boston in 1993 and in 1995 earned a Pet Grooming certificate from Mt. Ida College in Newton, Massachusetts. She practiced her new skills at a local pet grooming shop but cold winters and steamy summers soon brought her back to southern California.
After her dog Sadie passed away in mid 2005, Susan filled her dog-void by volunteering for the Helen Woodward Animal Center in Rancho Santa Fe, California, and then later for the local county animal shelter in Carlsbad, California. It wasn't long before she'd adopted two, senior dogs. Sue began helping Shelter Pet Partners, a respected local animal rescue organization, placing shelter pets in foster homes where they could be rehabilitated and then later adopted.
Nearing the end of 2006, Susan met Caroline and the two instantly bonded over their hopes of improving the lives of homeless dogs. Now Vice President and Treasurer for The Dog Squad, Susan continues to make a strong and positive impact on the animals she works to save.
Susan resides in her North County, San Diego apartment with her two collie-mixes, Charlotte and Bella.

Dale Lawson, Director of Media Relations
Dale was born and raised in Hawthorne,
California. He entered the workforce in the film and camera industry.
Over his twenty-year career his highlight was to become the Western Regional Sales
Manager for Bell & Howell, a manufacturer of film cameras and projectors covering
sixteen western states, Hawaii and Alaska. In 1987 he discovered his passion was
creating video. One year later he resigned from his twenty year career to venture out
into a new industry . . . self employment. He produced all types of videos for corporate
clients as well as a few infomercials and commercials.
In 1992, after adopting his dog
Marcus from the shelter, he developed a cable television show called "Dog On It". Now
knowing that he also had a passion for animals and dogs in particular, he founded, edited
and published The DogHouse Magazine. It was later sold and became Animal Magazine of
San Diego. Due to two life threatening auto accidents, Dale is now out of the workforce
but still active in helping dogs however he can. He now joins The Dog Squad Rescue
organization as the Director of Media Relations and included in his duties is producing
videos for The Dog Squad.
