Scarlet1 Year Old Shepherd/Jindo MixSue named this little girl "Scarlet" because she was so scared when she first met her. It was on the day that she was due to be euthanized; she hadn't been at the shelter long enough to be named. In her foster home, it soon became obvious that she was completely untrained and under-socialized. She didn't know any commands and responded to "no" with a cheeky look and wagging tail. She grabbed everything in sight and ran off and hid it in the garden. She may have been mischievous but she was also very affectionate. When she looked at you with her pretty, almond-shaped eyes and reached for you with her paw, it was hard to be mad at her. Scarlet communicates by using her paws, nose and mouth. She lets you know what she wants. Once, she grabbed her foster mom by the seat of the pants to get her attention. When one of the other dogs started eating out of her bowl, she pulled him away by his ear. She puts out her paw to let you know that she wants affection. During the next few weeks, she started to respond more appropriately to "no" and learned the basic commands. She started enjoying car rides and slowly became less afraid of the world around her. After several weeks, she went to live at a sanctuary, where she got to live and play with several other dogs her own age. She loved the company of other dogs but missed the human connection - she only saw her foster mom on weekends. Her new family met her at one of our adoption events. She was a little shy with them at first but slowly started to trust them. The second week of her adoption, they took her on vacation to the seaside, which she loved. They have waited patiently for her to bond with each of them and she's now a part of their family. She is currently attending obedience classes and is graduating in the Fall.
