KeiferShy but LovingWe rescued Keifer from the local shelter. He was fearful, distrusting and very timid around people. It soon became obvious to his foster mom, Caroline, however, that a part of him really desired human contact and affection. When he felt safe, his shyness would melt away and he'd want to sit on her lap and exchange kisses. However, when something triggered his fearfulness, a load noise for instance, he would shut off and act as if he didn't know her. Sometimes, she felt as if she was making no progress and then he would surprise her with a lively display of affection. Keifer's dog skills are amazing. He won over all three of Caroline's dogs, even grumpy Moose, the Frenchie. He brought an energy and playfulness to the home. His new family met him at one of our adoption events. The family wanted a dog but the mom is allergic and so they needed a dog with the right coat. They took Keifer home on a trial basis. The family, even their youngest son, has been incredibly patient with Keifer. They have given him plenty of time to learn to trust them. Over a period of weeks, he became part of their family. Keifer will always be a shy, nervous dog but, more and more, his playful, joyful side is emerging, thanks to his kind new family. He still spends time with his foster family when his adoptive family goes on vacation and when he visits for a play date.
