Blueberry3 Year Old Pit BullBlueberry was dumped at the shelter after having a litter of puppies. She was very shy and timid and didn't get noticed by the public. Before long, the shelter decided that she was unadoptable and a rescue group was asked to take her. She was put in the back, out of public view, and had no walks or interaction with people for two weeks while the rescue worked on finding her a foster home. In the end, they couldn't take her and she was put on the list to be euthanized. The Dog Squad jumped in at the last minute to rescue her. When she came out of her kennel, she was petrified; her tail was tucked under her and she crawled more than walked. We housed her in a board member's garage for a couple of days until we found a foster home for her. As a large, powerful pit bull, with cropped ears, people were afraid of her. She was just as afraid of them, especially of men. As we got to know her, though, we found that she was one of the sweetest, gentlest dogs we'd ever rescued. She got on with cats and loved to play with other dogs. At one of our events, she was cuddling up to a couple of volunteers when a man named Tyler saw her. He called us a couple of days later to say that he couldn't get her face out of his mind. He said that his wife, Leslie, would like to meet her and they'd like to introduce her to their cats and horses. We arranged for her to spend a few hours with them and the introductions went very well. Tyler and Leslie were really taken with Blueberry but people kept warning them against her because of her breed. With reassurances from us that she was a wonderful dog and that they could return her if a problem arose, they decided to go ahead with the adoption and, on Valentine's Day, 2008, she became theirs. Tyler and Leslie brought Blueberry to visit us a few weeks later. We were happy to see that had bonded with Tyler. She seemed to be a lot less timid and fearful too. They've visited with us several times since then and Blueberry (now Blue) is doing very well. Her coat is soft and shiny and she is happy and outgoing. Seeing her brings us all joy. We don't mind her kisses either. Tyler and Leslie have given up waiting for the "bad pit bull nature" to kick in. They say that she is all that we said she was, and more. She brings the same joy to their lives that she brought to The Dog Squad. Other Happy TailsSee our Happy Tails page for more happy endings. Copyright © 2007-2008 The Dog Squad Rescue, Inc. |
